Some pictures

Yorik and Nyarlathotep illuminated by my LED lantern. This was my only source of reliable light until I remember I actually had candles to burn.

This large tree smashed down near my laundry room.

There was some flooding as well. This leads down to the cul-de-sac that my main street connects. The water was considerably higher before this was taken. The flooding went all the way up the street and into the local bayou. Fortunately it never got any higher. There is a lot more flooding elsewhere, under the Hardy Toll Road bridge the underpass is about 16 feet of water. Some ponding in parking lots as well, with idiots playing in waist deep water. They will probably die of typhus or something later and infect the rest of us.

And of course this creature thought the entire experience was boring, except for the parts when she realized I wasn't going anywhere and demanded my attention. Since I was bored out of my mind, she got all she wanted.

Power...need power....

I am one of the millions that are without proper power. Fortunately, BigServerCo has a datacenter within hiking distance, so I am here to perform some administrative work and recharge everything that I can off these dual multimegawatt generators that provide Ac and light in a sea of darkness.

Its a total mess out there. Pics in a bit from my admittedly small view of things, but peeps do have it worse than I do in places, I know.

I can easily hold out for the rest of the week, but I'm gonna have to toss out everything in the fridge by then. I doubt I will be able to flag down a passing FEMA truck with ice in time.

I'm more worried about NotDeskmerc...she has no power and I don't think she can get to me to get some power either.

DEADLY PROJECTILES

I swear before God and Sunny Jesus that the next newstard who says "and this debris will later become DEADLY PROJECTILES"!

I have to keep reminding myself that there are people who will, when the wind really blows, try to fly human lift kites. Or if you are Geraldo, try to stand too close to onrushing surf. But then, Geraldo would know all about nose-deadly projectile chairs, so I guess it is just bad judgement.

Every time the lights flicker I know someone just lost power. I suspect it's the system rerouting itself and the load drops a bit, and it takes tim to recover from a sudden drop in load. (Hell, I'm just guessing)

It flickers

Power keeps flickering on and off. Internet unaffected, but it knocks out my router.

Ike

Winds are picking up. Watching the news on my TV card, Galveston is so screwed. Eyefall in 8 hours. Pictures are going to be useless as it gets darker.
